Who owns the monkey?
We all live in society. We are all part of a culture. We are all involved in groups, organizations, and sub-cultures. Through socialization we learn to recognize, act, and respond to social norms in society. The way we respond to culturally approved social norms defines our culture but more importantly defines who you are.
This semester we will explore the concepts that help us to understand human behavior and the environmental factors that influence our behavior. Quite often we fail to think about norms, roles, social structure, and sub-cultures as a part of our daily lives. This course aims to help you explore, describe, and explain the social world in a way that you will find helpful and interesting.
